Bridlington, June 14, 2010—Joel Braunold, coordinator of political and media affairs for OneVoice Europe delivered a keynote speech at the annual conference of the Bakers and Allied Food Workers Union (BAFWU).
Addressing 300 people Braunold spoke about the OneVoice movement and the Imagine 2018 campaign.
The BAFWU has 20,000 members in the UK and Ireland and a history of fighting sectarianism in the work place during the troubling times in Northern Ireland. Braunold spoke of the lessons learnt from the trade union movement and how they inspired the ideas of active grassroots engagement and empowerment.
His speech invited the union to stand in solidarity with the OneVoice movement.
“No one goes to bed dreaming of a two-state solution, it is a compromise that the people of the region support to get on with their lives with dignity and security. It is realistic. Yet the time for achieving this solution through negotiations is diminishing. Without international civil society supporting the actors to reach this goal we risk losing it all together.” He received a standing ovation from the delegates and the executive committee.
OneVoice Europe will continue with this outreach to the trade union movement within the UK to build solidarity with the OneVoice movement. Braunold concluded with the same questions OneVoice asks everyone:
What will it take to end the conflict?
What is it going to look like?
What is your role?
