We will also share with you a media update shortly.

OneVoice Announces New Gaza Headquarters

After months of preparations, planning, and grassroots work, OneVoice is proud to officially announce its new Gaza office, opened in the late fall of 2006.

In the past, OneVoice Palestine conducted activities in Gaza through its West Bank office. However, the increased restrictions on people’s movement between the West Bank and Gaza often prevented our Ramallah-based staff and activists from traveling to Gaza, making it necessary for the movement to redouble its efforts and deepen its activism in order to advance its mission of ending the conflict through a two-state solution.

Amidst a challenging situation on the ground, the opening of the Gaza office will enable OneVoice Palestine to further its outreach and broaden its youth leadership development program to highlight the imperative of civic society’s non-violent but assertive engagement toward ending the occupation. Gaza’s team includes:

[Name Withheld for Security Purposes] OneVoice Gaza Executive Director

[Name Withheld for Security Purposes] OneVoice Gaza Director for Leadership Development

[Name Withheld for Security Purposes] OneVoice Gaza Executive Secretary

The new office has faced many challenges, but the staff is dedicated and determined to carry out the OneVoice mission in Gaza.

World Economic Forum Davos Re-Cap: Read the Summary of the Event

At the World Economic Forum in Davos this past January, over 1,000 OneVoice activists – Israelis and Palestinians – put their questions, demands and intent via video links from Jerusalem, Ramallah and Tel Aviv at once to President Abbas, Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Tzipi Livni and Vice-Premier Shimon Peres.

It was a rare bringing together of leadership from both sides and set a great precedent for civil society to unite and hold accountable their political leaders. President Abbas alluded to the importance of momentum – referencing his recent meeting with Prime Minister Olmert and saying “we are ready, as of now, to start serious negotiations with our Israeli neighbours”.

Livni remarked on OneVoice's youth leaders: “whilst watching …OneVoice's youth I felt a mixture of sadness and hope. Sadness at so many opportunities lost, and hope in these young people for the future. They gave us hope, and our responsibility as leaders is to give them hope in return”.

Both Minister Livni and President Abbas outlined their starting negotiating positions for a two state solution and their will to see this process through. There have been many false starts and false promises in the Middle East, however, and OneVoice's task is now greater than ever to make sure leaders deliver.

All this took place amongst 2,000 global leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos and has been picked up by press worldwide. 274,000 have already watched the OneVoice video featured on YouTube.

Palestinian & Israeli Women Express What They Are Willing to Do to End the Conflict

At the end of February and beginning of March, OneVoice organized parallel events in Palestine and Israel focused on the role of women in ending the conflict.

At the refugee camp in Jenin, OneVoice Palestine gathered around 200 women for the event. There, they expressed their willingness to participate for the sake of their children and the freedom of their people, and sent a message to all Israeli women asking for the same dedication and partnership in ending the conflict.

In parallel, OneVoice Israel hosted a women’s event in Tel Aviv. As in Jenin, the Israeli women discussed the necessity of working toward a two-state solution and an end to the conflict. Both the Palestinian and the Israeli events are part of OneVoice’s ongoing “What Are You Willing to Do?” Campaign which seeks to mobilize Israelis and Palestinians on a monthly basis, each time highlighting a different constituency.
